Top 5 Vietnamese – French Dishes
If you don’t know, Vietnam has many years of history, and some Vietnamese dishes are also influenced by the culture of other countries, especially France. Today, I will introduce five Vietnamese – French dishes that you MUST TRY when traveling here in Vietnam. 1. Vietnamese beef stew noodle soup (Phở sốt vang)
This is one of the Vietnamese foods as the French version of beef stew dishes (Pot-au-feu). In French, they use red wine for cooking, while Vietnamese people use rice wine instead.
The noodle soup features tender beef and onions with spices. It is very flavorful. If you don’t try it in Hanoi, Vietnam, you will miss out on something delicious.

2. Egg coffee (Cà phê trứng)
Did you know Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee exporter? You can find Vietnamese coffee everywhere. The Vietnamese coffee story will surprise you, and we use condensed milk with coffee instead of milk, making Vietnamese coffee unique and flavorful. A fun fact is that fresh milk was expensive and scarce during the war. Only French people and the wealthy can afford it.

3. Bánh mì
One fun fact is that the French baguette is 30 – 40 centimeters long, but Banh mi in Vietnam is just 2/3 shorter. When eating Banh mi, you can see many ingredients such as pate (of course), jambon, grilled meat, carrot, green papaya, cilantro, coriander, and so much more. Remember to add mayonnaise and chili sauce to make it an unforgettable experience!

4. Snail vermicelli soup (Bún ốc)
The next dish is snail vermicelli soup (bún ốc). French people do eat snails, but they make it differently. This snail noodle soup consists of savory and sour broth, beef slices, crab, Vietnamese bologna, fried tofu, and of course, snails are the main ingredients in this dish. When eating this dish, Vietnamese people eat it with fried bread sticks (quẩy); you just need to dip it in the broth and then enjoy it!

5. Flan cake
Last but not least, there is a type of dessert you should try when you are here in Vietnam. It is called flan cake. It is jelly and creamy at the same time. If French has Crème bruleé, then Vietnamese people have bánh caramen (flan cake).
